If you are hoping to serve in Lagos state but don’t know whether you can get a good NYSC PPA in the state, then this article is for you.
The NYSC is a period when citizens of Nigeria who are graduates of tertiary institutions, whether in Nigeria or abroad, serve Nigeria.
This service must be in Nigeria, because, during the service, you are not supposed to leave your place of service.
Also, during the service, the Nigerian government assigns you to a Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) where you will serve for one year.
This place could be a school, a hospital, a government or state parastatal, etc.
It is compulsory as a Nigerian Youth to serve the country, especially if you plan on getting a job in Nigeria or working for the Nigerian government.
At the end of the Service, a certificate is given to you, which you can add to your credentials for job applications in Nigeria.
So, if after your NYSC application, you find yourself in Lagos state, I know you would only like to serve in the best PPA in the state.
As a result, this article presents you with a comprehensive list of some of the best NYSC PPA in Lagos state.
Also, you will learn a lot about the state – security issues, how much Lagos state pays corpers and so on.
Let’s start with knowing the condition of Lagos state for NYSC service.
Is Lagos state good for NYSC service?
To judge whether Lagos state is a good state for NYSC, there are a lot of factors we need to consider.
This is because different people have their tastes and criteria for judging whether a state is nice for service or not.
As a result, you will not expect my judgement to be the same as yours.
With that in mind, let’s begin our judgement from the camp.
1. What is the nature of Lagos state NYSC Orientation camp?
Lagos NYSC camp is one of those awesome camps you’d want to stay in.
The Lagos NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp is located at Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Lagos State.
It has a very serene environment with a major part of the camp tarred.
The hostels are nice while the toilets and bathrooms are just manageable.
Light is fairly constant in the camp and there is constant supply of water.
The only challenge you may face in Lagos camp is the fact you will have to experience Lagos traffic when coming into the camp.
The intensity of the traffic will, however, depend on the direction you are coming from.
So, just prepare your mind for the experience ahead.
2. What is the state of infrastructures in Lagos state
Lagos state has some good infrastructures especially in the island areas.
At the same time, they still have bad infrastructures in many other areas.
Electricity supply is either not constant or the current will be too low to even charge your laptop.
Roads are good in some areas while some other areas are impassable.
When it rains in Lagos, almost everywhere becomes flooded.
This is a common experience for those living on the island.
Water supply is basically from boreholes in different homes.
But the water you will get from the boreholes are usually not clean.
In the case of network connection, I give it to Lagos.
Almost every area in Lagos has very strong internet connectivity.
3. What is the cost of living in Lagos state as an NYSC corps member?
The cost of living in Lagos is very expensive.
I just wish there’s another word to describe how expensive Lagos state is.
The cost of housing is extremely high, one of the highest in Nigeria.
The cost of transportation is so high.
In fact, you may spend your entire N33,000 monthly allowance on transportation alone if care is not taken.
The cost of food is really high especially on the island.
Although, if you go to major markets like thr Balogun market, you may find some cheap things there.
However, when you calculate the cost of going to the market, it would be better that you bought from the closest market in your area.
The cost of healthcare services is also very high partly because there are more private healthcare centres.
The few available government healthcare centres cannot serve the great population of people living in Lagos.
4. How much does Lagos state government pay NYSC corps members
Lagos state only pays those who work in government ministries as well as Local government offices.
Also, the payment varies from one level to another.
Lagos state pays some corpers as much as N15,000 while others may receive N10,000 or N5,000.
Remember that this money is not for every corps member serving in the state.
Now you may begin to wonder why most corpers rush to Lagos even though Lagos state does not pay all corps members.
The reason is simple.
It is because Lagos is very safe and there are lots of opportunities for corpers in the state.
In fact, if you chose to continue living in Lagos state after your service year, there are many things you can do to make money there.
As a result, corps members troup into the state to seize these opportunities.
5. Is Lagos state safe for NYSC corps members?
Lagos state is super safe for NYSC corps irrespective of your PPA.
Almost all areas of Lagos state are well developed and filled with a lot of people.
As a result, there are no hiding places for criminals.
The major security challenge you may have in Lagos will be that of touts.
There are cult activities in some areas, so you need to avoid them like leprosy.
Most times, these cult boys attack when they see you dressed in certain colours that look like theirs or that of an opposition cult.
If you find yourself in such areas, avoid colours like “red and black” or “yellow barrets” especially for guys.
These colours are symbolic of their cult ans you don’t want to cross their path when in reality, you don’t belong.
There are some other petty crimes like stealing, pickpocketing etc.
However, you must “shine your eyes” whenever you find yourself in Lagos.

How to get the Best PPA to accept you during your NYSC service in Lagos state
Lagos state NYSC will give you a posting letter to a predetermined PPA within the state.
Although, I have witnessed cases where those who have issues may choose to relocate to a new PPA.
Normally, NYSC does not encourage relocations away from your PPA, so make sure you read the NYSC rules and regulations to make sure you do not default.
Some of the challenges for which NYSC will accept your request to relocate to another PPA or away from an LGA is if you have a physical disability, illness, security or accommodation problem.
If you have any of the aforementioned issues, they may honour your request to relocate.
To get through the best NYSC PPA of your choice in Lagos state, you have to write an application letter to them.
In your letter, you have to state that you are a corper and then mention other reasons why they should hire you.
Make sure you submit your application alongside photocopies of necessary documents including your credentials, results and certificates.
If the company accepts you, you will have to collect a request letter from them which you will present to NYSC as an alternative for the previous PPA.
Note that the current PPA you are trying to move away from must reject you before you present the request letter.
It will take some days up to two weeks before your new PPA will reflect on your NYSC portal.
